What does the aviation unit in fort irwin do?

Hubby called his branch manager and asked what was available for him, he was told fort irwin. We been stationed her in fort drum for 5 years now and before that I was stationed in fort carson for 4 years while hubby was in drum. I heard so many bad things about irwin being a lonely place and nothing to do but to me its the same as here on drum. What I want to know is what do the Aviation units do there? Will they be doing Op4 stuff too? And is there an airfield on Irwin? I been there for NTC in 04 but dont remember anything about an airfield. Thanks for your answers!!!
